Pouches FAQ

Aren’t squeeze pouches bad for the environment?

We asked this same question because we value protecting the environment in a very big way at One Little Farm. After all, we want to protect the future of our planet for the babies we are raising right now! While exploring glass packaging options, we were shocked to find out that it actually takes nine times more fossil fuel to transport a glass jar versus a pouch! Why? That's because the pouches are smaller in size and weight, and require less fuel to transport. So while we recommend limiting the use of disposable packaging, we decided to launch our company with pouched products, given the higher carbon footprint of glass jars. However, we are very committed to exploring new innovative packaging options that we may adopt in the future that will be more and more easy on mother earth.

We are soon rolling out our ‘Recycle’ program that will make sure that every single pouch we make is recycled properly.

Are your pouches BPA free and recyclable?

Yes! Our pouches are made from BPA-free plastic and the caps are recyclable anywhere that plastic is recycled. The pouches are unique because they are not recyclable in traditional plastic recycling because they are a mixture of different plastics. Therefore, we are soon rolling out our own ‘Recycle’ program that will make sure that every single pouch we make is recycled properly.

Can my One Little Farm pouches be microwaved?

Yes. Our pouches are designed to be enjoyed at room temperature, but if your baby prefers them warm or you’ve stored an open pouch in the refrigerator, then you may microwave it for a very short duration (may be for just 5-7 seconds) after removing the cap. DO NOT MICROWARE WITHOUT REMOVING THE CAP

What is the shelf life of your pouches?

Unopened pouches can be consumed up to 6 months from the date of manufacture. You can find the best before date on the back of the pouch.

Why is the shelf life of your pouches less compared to other baby food brands?

We stand by our promise to never use any preservatives or stabilizers. Also, we use gentle heat while cooking the ingredients (to retain maximum nutrients). As our products are as close to your home made food, they have a limited shelf life of just 5 months.

Most other baby food brands do high heat processing which destroys the micro-nutrients like vitamins and minerals and some brands even use other artificial additives (which they don’t declare, scary right?). This makes their products shelf stable for almost 12-18 months.

How long will a baby food pouch last after opening?

We recommend finishing the opened pouch withing 1-2 hours. Or you can refrigerate it and consume within 24 hours of opening.

Do unopened sealed One Little Farm pouches need to be refrigerated?

There is no need to refrigerate unopened sealed pouches! However, once you’ve opened the pouch, be sure to refrigerate it and consume it within 24 hours of opening.

Why does it stain my little one’s spoon?

Some of our purees may leave a colored tinge on the silicone of your little one’s spoon, and that is most likely a result of the combination of all ingredients! For example, in our products containing Carrots or Mango, a yellow looking stain could be left behind. Also, a pouch containing spinach can leave a greenish stain. Dont worry, its all because of the natural ingredients! A quick Mom-hack is that acidic things will help to break down the stain and get your utensils and high chair tray looking brand new again! We recommend cleaning them with Lemon juice or soaking your utensils in a little bit of watered down vinegar.

Can my One Little Farm pouches be frozen?

Yes! Once opened, you can
freeze the puree within 2-3 hours of opening. This way your baby can have it for later consumption! You also can freeze the entire unopened pouched – popsicles,

Will the pouches leak chemicalsif exposed to high heat?

We were very concerned about
this because we live in hot hot part of India. We chose a pouch that is extra durable and specially designed to withstand high heat up to 110 degrees. Our final pouches are also randomly selected and sent to an additional third party testing facility to ensure its purity.

Is there a risk for mold in your pouches?

Definitely not! Our pouches are put through a high-heat, high-pressure process after they are sealed. This process kills all potential pathogens or mold. The reports you may have heard about parents finding mold were all in pouches that had been processed using “hot fill”, meaning they pasteurize it first and then fill the pouches, which allows the small chance of contamination in between. Since our process is different, you don’t need to worry about your little one being exposed to mold when it comes to our pouches!

Why is puree that comes our ofthe pouch first is little different in term of colour and texture?

The part of the puree that comes out first the the puree contained in the spout and not the pouch itself. While heating and storing the pouches, the part of puree contained inside the spout is exposed to different temperatures and that is why it is little different in terms of colour and texture. But rest assured, it is the same 100% clean label puree and its absolutely safe to eat.
